Words Fail Me…

Like exercising my right to vote, I have been striving to uphold my responsibility to be informed about the political situation here in the United States, and the terrible actions of Trump, Musk, and their Republican Party supporters.

While I’ve managed to do that among the demands of my work schedule, and my schoolwork, I have found myself spending a lot of time staring off into space; not thinking, not planning, just sitting here doing nothing.

I haven’t kept up with blog reading, and I’ve barely managed to prepare and plan for my upcoming move, much less stay on top of other life responsibilities like paying bills.

I don’t need to rehash the current events for you all, as there are many out there who are doing a much better job at writing and speaking about it, such as Heather Cox Richardson of the Letters from an American fameI am nowhere near an expert on politics but I am trying to expand my knowledge base as quickly as I can.

Last week, though, I was thinking that maybe it’s not (just) time for words, but for action, and I started to think about ways I could act. Attending protests, of course, but also ways I could motivate myself to act, instead of stuck in this introspective, and soul-weary, loop.

I’ve been so, so resilient my whole life, but I’m tired, ya’ll. And overwhelmed. And discouraged.

Still, I put together some ideas for a decentralized grassroots movement, and I’m trying to build a network of people within my local community to continue to brainstorm and plan the resistance against these corrupt, unethical, greedy, exploitative, and inhumane forces at work through their positions of power.

Even if this movement I have in mind doesn’t take off, at least people are starting to fight back against Trump and his vile partners in crime.

[…] Sadly, though, things are not just fishy outside of the fictional world, but deeply troubling and horrifying in the world of politics here in the United States. I wrote another, more serious post about it on my other blog. If you want join my grassroots resistance movement of one (me!), head here: https://kirstenleebarger.com/2025/04/08/words-fail-me/. […]

I feel your pain. I’ve been meaning to check in…and now I feel like a heel that I didn’t send you just a quick “Hey how are you? Checking in” email. I’m sorry.

You may have already thought of this, but every day Wayne calls our senators and congressmen people asking why prices are still high.

And he thinks getting loads of people to call Tesla’s corporate headquarters every day, continuously, and have them ask to speak to someone about DOGE’s meddling would disrupt the business. But not just headquarters. Dealerships too.

He envisions it as like a Meal Train thing where people sign up for certain call times, certain topics, so they know exactly when to call. I think it’s brilliant, but neither of us knows where to start to create such a thing.

I’m sure history (like people who were part of the Resistance in WWII) also holds clues for ways we could stir things up. We’d have to adapt them to today’s world but I’m sure there are some idea there.

It’s just shocking he’s effed up as bad as he has and nothing. No consequences. No outrage. Only applause about how “brilliant” he is.

We’ll see if they feel that way in another 6 months when prices are higher, everyone’s even poorer, and his base starts to feel the effects. They don’t think they will. Their talking point is they don’t need anything. They needs more than they think, like meds, so let’s see how they feel once things double/triple/quadruple and they can’t afford what they do need.

If we are in a recession and there’s not a blue wave come 2026, our elections are most definitely compromised. That’s all I have to say.
